About Doug
Lifelong Conservative Ready to Serve.
Doug Cannon has called East Alabama home his entire life. The son of parents from Tallassee and Reeltown, Doug graduated from Beauregard High School in 1982 and married his high school sweetheart, Amanda, the following year. Amanda, originally from Hackneyville, has been by his side for nearly 43 years. After raising three children in Auburn, they are now enjoying the gift of being grandparents to three.
Doug worked his way from the production floor to management at the Uniroyal tire plant in Opelika then built a 40 year career as a home builder in the Auburn-Opelika and Lake Martin area. Since his election as Lee County Commissioner for District 1 in 2020, Doug has treated his office as a full-time commitment, earning a reputation for his 'boots-on-the-ground' approach. He is the kind of leader who answers the phone and shows up in person to inspect a drainage issue or a paving project. He has been an advocate for the expansion of rural broadband, infrastructure improvements, and community projects like Loachapoka Park. Beyond the Commission and led by his faith, Doug stays deeply involved in the community by donating much needed supplies to first responders and supporting youth sports, foster families, and veterans. His goal for running for State Senate remains simple: to leave his community better than he found it.

Issues
The people of Alabama expect their leaders to go to Montgomery and bring home conservative wins that make life better, safer, and more affordable. As your State Senator, Doug Cannon will do just that.
Eliminate the State Grocery Tax
As your State Senator, Doug will fight to end the state sales tax on grocery essentials, putting money back in working families’ pockets.
Expand Workforce Training
Doug knows a skilled workforce attracts investment to Alabama, so he is prioritizing technical training to prepare the next generation for high-paying careers without the burden of student debt.

Conservative Values
As a lifelong conservative, Doug will deliver fiscal responsibility, increased transparency, and put a stop to wasteful spending.
